Port Douglas, 5 November 2025 — Leading Queensland property developer Seymour Group has
announced the acquisition of the former Havana site at 71–85 Port Douglas Road, Port Douglas,
from receivers and managers Alvarez & Marsal.
The 2.07 hectare site has a long and well-known history in the region, with incomplete
basement works undertaken more than a decade ago leaving a visible scar at the entry to Port
Douglas. Once envisaged as a major resort development, the stalled project became an
enduring eyesore and a symbol of the town’s development challenges following the global
financial crisis.
Seymour Group Executive Chairman, Kevin Seymour said the acquisition presents an
opportunity to finally resolve one of Port Douglas’s most prominent unfinished sites.
“This site has a checkered history and, for too long, has detracted from the arrival experience
into one of Queensland’s most iconic coastal towns,” Mr Seymour said. “We are committed to
transforming it into a high-quality development that complements the natural beauty and
relaxed character of Port Douglas.”
Seymour Group will now commence detailed planning and engagement with Douglas Shire
Council, focusing on design outcomes that restore amenity to the area and support a viable
development outcome.
The acquisition extends Seymour Group’s long and proud history of development in Port
Douglas.
